Movies for you and Dad to watch this weekend
If you and your dad share an affinity for horror and thriller movies, then maybe this weekend you'll find time to enjoy something new or even take in an old favourite.
Here are five movies that come to mind when I think horrror...and Father's Day.
Number 1.
Creepshow (1982)
'Father's Day' is the first of the five shorts included in this anthology film from Stephen King and George A. Romero. Even if you haven't seen Creepshow (maybe stop reading this and watch it lol), you've probably seen the picture of dead dear ol' Dad coming into the kitchen with Bedelia's head served up on a platter with candles on top. Dad gets his cake after all!
Number 2.
Frailty (2001)
Bill Paxton directed this thriller starring himself alongside Matthew McConaughey and Powers Boothe. Bill Paxton plays the dad of Fenton and Adam Meiks, who believes he's receiving divine messages to kill people he believes are demons and these delusions include using both of his sons as unwilling accomplices to these murders. Dad of the year award right here. Check out the trailer below and stream it tonight on Plex, Starz it PlutoTV.
Number 3.
Pumpkinhead (1988)
Ok, now in this case, Lance Henriksen really is just trying to be father of the year.
After his little boy is killed by a group of teenagers on dirt bikes, Ed Harley (Henriksen), fueled with vengeance, visits Haggis, a mystic of sorts that lives deep in the woods, to have her bring back his boy, but instead, Pumpkinhead is conjured up to destroy the group of unsuspecting teens. Definitely a cult hit! Stream it tonight on Tubi.
Number 4.
The Stepfather (1987)
You know how it goes, you kill your whole family, try to find love again, but find yourself wanting to kill your new family too. Tale as old as time haha! But basically that's the premise of this movie and it's subsequent sequels. Don't get me wrong, the first movie especially is great and I highly recommend it. Stream it tonight on Prime, Tubi or Plex.
Number 5.
The Shining (1980)
I mean, come on. Of course this is on the list. For me, Jack Torrance is the epitome of the horror movie, antagonistic father. I won't say much more about it, you've probably seen it a hundred times like I have. You can stream it on Crave and Starz. Check the trailer below!
There you have it! Hopefully you've found something from my list to watch with Dad this weekend. Happy Father's Day!
